No one ever believes me when I tell them I'm a real live Florida native. Yep, some of us aren't snowbirds!
Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE to cook! My family is Cuban and Sicilian, so Latin and Italian foods are some of my favorites, but I love to try new recipes and dishes as often as I can... Got a recipe you think I should try? Send it to me!
Some of my other interests are baseball (Go Rays!), wine, eating (hey, it goes with the cooking!), music, travel, and Boston, my cat. I also LOVE zombie shows--The Walking Dead on AMC is one of my favorites, and I'm also into Breaking Bad, HGTV, The Food Network, and The Travel Channel.
I just read this story in the Huffington Post about how doctors in the UK recently discovered that junk food could be as addictive as heroin or tobacco. What??! Turns out, when a person says they have trouble making heathier choices about food, it might not entirely be their fault. The docs found out that all the chemicals pumped into many junk foods to enhance flavor and preserve the food--some of the chemicals are even designed to make you not feel hungry, so you constanly want more food!--can be as addictive as hardcore drugs, or cigarettes. Crazy!
The study revealed that many of the doctors' patients felt like they couldn't control themselves in the presence of fatty, sugary foods. They felt that their food compusions were controlling their lives, and after binging on junk food, they felt a lack of self-worth and feelings of despair. Hmm, sounds like an addiciton to me.
